I was overjoyed to have achieved a perfect GPA during my first year at university. And for my hard work, I was honored as a scholar named on the Dean's List for Fall of 2022.

In Fall of 2022 I was invited to participate in UTEP's Undergraduate Fellowship Program where my peers and I were able to explore academic opportunities to pursue during our time as undergrads. After completing the program we were invited to the Celebration of Success event where we could further explore these opportunities by meeting with winners of nationally competitive awards and scholarships. It was truly inspirational not only to hear of all the programs and titles students can apply for but also to meet these high achieving students.
June 4, 2022 - Graduation
Today is an exceptional day for me; it is the first of many milestones I plan to achieve in my professional career. For achieving a rank in the top ten percent of my class, today I walk across the stage in white as a representation of my academic stance.
For me, today is a lesson - a testament that consistent hard work culminates into something wonderful. After four years, hundreds of assignments, and a pandemic, I graduate as the class Salutatorian.
Because of this accomplishment, I was invited to share a few words at the ceremony before receiving my diploma. I have attached a copy of the speech I wrote entitled "Surpassing Expectations" as well as a link where you may watch a recording of the ceremony. I hope you enjoy it.

On this day I received a package in the mail from The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The package notified me of a merit-based scholarship I had earned. The Presidential Scholarship includes "$8,000 annually, for four (4) years, awarded to the student ranked #1 in their class at the end of junior year attending a public high school within Region 19". Indeed, a very proud day for me.

At our annual school award assembly I was pleasantly shocked when I was awarded best student in DC Chem and Cal I in addition to A Honor Roll. Yet, my astonishment grew. Members of the El Paso Independent School District decided to use this opportunity to let me know I had been awarded two EPISD essay-based scholarships I had applied for. I was at a loss for words!

In preparation for the transition from early college to university, I had spent months applying for every scholarship I possibly could but to no avail. When all hope seemed lost, though, I received an email from the Northeast Business Alliance - a local nonprofit business organization - notifying me of my being one of their scholarship recipients. The members of NEBA were kind enough to invite the recipients to a formal banquet where we were officially awarded our scholarships. It was so much fun, and I am truly grateful.
